How this is calculated
The pascal (Pa) is the SI derived unit of pressure, defined as one newton per square metre (N/m²). It is the natural hub for pressure conversion: multiply the input value by its "to-Pa" factor to get pascals, then divide by the target unit's factor. All conversion factors here use the exact or best-practice values: 1 bar = 100,000 Pa (exact), 1 atm = 101,325 Pa (exact by definition since 1954), 1 psi = 6,894.757 Pa (derived from the exact pound-force and inch definitions), 1 Torr = 101,325/760 ≈ 133.322 Pa, and 1 mmH₂O (at 4 °C and standard gravity) = 9.80665 Pa.
In practice, pressure is measured on three different scales: absolute (relative to perfect vacuum), gauge (relative to ambient atmospheric pressure), and differential (between two arbitrary points). This calculator converts absolute pressures only. For gauge pressure, add one atmosphere (≈ 101,325 Pa) before converting — for example, a tyre rated at 2.2 bar gauge is 3.21 bar absolute.
Hectopascals (hPa) equal millibars exactly and are used in meteorology. Megapascals and gigapascals appear in materials science and geology. Torr and mmHg are functionally identical (differ by less than 0.000015%) and widely used in medical and vacuum contexts.
