Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

A half birthday is 6 calendar months after your birthday — same day of month, capped at the last valid day if needed. June 15 → December 15 (183 days); August 31 → February 28/29. Enter your date of birth to see the exact half-birthday date and how many days separate it from your birthday.

Formula
Half-birthday = birth month + 6 (wrapping into the next year if needed), same day — capped at the last valid day of the target month for month-end birthdays.
How this is calculated

A half-birthday is the date exactly halfway through the year from your birthday — commonly celebrated when the real birthday falls in a school holiday or inconvenient time, or simply as a fun midpoint tradition.

The calculator adds 6 to the birth month (modulo 12, carrying the year forward when the month is July or later). It then checks whether the birth day exists in the target month: for example, August 31 + 6 months = February 31 which does not exist, so the result is capped at the last day of February (28 in common years, 29 in leap years).

The "days between birthday and half-birthday" count is computed from the raw date difference in milliseconds divided by 86,400,000. Calendar months are not equal in length, so six calendar months spans anywhere from 181 to 184 days — not always 182 or 183. If you need exactly half a 365-day year (182.5 days), that may land on a different date.

Frequently asked questions

A half birthday is the date exactly six months from your birthday. If you were born on 10 April, your half birthday falls on 10 October. It is often celebrated for children whose birthday falls during school summer holidays, or by anyone who wants an extra midyear reason to celebrate.

February does not have 31 days, so the half birthday is capped at the last valid day of February: 29 February in a leap year, 28 February in a common year. The calculator handles this automatically.

Not always. Six calendar months spans 181–184 days depending on which months are involved, because months have different lengths. The calculator uses the calendar-month definition, which is the most common everyday meaning of "half birthday".
