How does this calculator work?
Wait (days) = (population × % ahead ÷ 100 × doses per person) ÷ daily doses. For the Netherlands 2021 rollout (17.9 M people, ~100 k doses/day, 2 doses/person), someone at the 42 % mark waited roughly 300 days. All inputs are editable to model any scenario.

How this is calculated
The Netherlands rolled out its COVID-19 vaccination programme in phases from January 2021, coordinated by the RIVM (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment). The calculator maps each phase to the approximate cumulative percentage of the population that receives a vaccine before that group begins. Multiplying this fraction by the total population gives the number of people ahead in the queue, then multiplying by doses per person (typically 2 for COVID-19 vaccines) gives the total doses that must be administered before your group starts. Dividing by the daily capacity yields the estimated waiting time in days.
The default values — 17.9 million population and 100,000 doses per day — reflect 2021 Netherlands estimates. The actual rollout speed varied week to week; you can edit both figures to model faster or slower scenarios. The priority group percentages are approximate; real-world sequencing overlapped between phases and differed by region and appointment availability.
This calculator gives an order-of-magnitude estimate for planning purposes. Actual wait times depended on live appointment availability, regional delivery schedules, and individual eligibility assessments by GPs and health authorities.
