How does this calculator work?
Malaysia's 2021 PICK vaccination programme had three phases: Phase 1 (~500K healthcare and frontline workers), Phase 2 (~8.4M adults 60+, disabled, high-risk, and essential workers), and Phase 3 (~16M remaining adults 18–59). Estimated wait = people ahead ÷ weekly vaccination rate. All figures are 2021 DOSM estimates; edit the weekly rate for current CITF data.

How this is calculated
Malaysia's 2021 COVID-19 vaccination programme — known as PICK (Program Imunisasi COVID-19 Kebangsaan) — was administered through the MySejahtera app and managed by the COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF). The programme used three phases. Phase 1 (launched 24 February 2021) prioritised approximately 500,000 healthcare frontline workers, non-healthcare frontline personnel (police, military, immigration officers), and registered disabled persons — the groups with the highest exposure risk or greatest care needs. Phase 2 (from April 2021) covered adults aged 60 and over (~4 million), persons with disabilities (~700,000), adults 18–59 with serious comorbidities (~1.2 million), and essential services workers (teachers, firefighters, public transport staff, utilities) (~2.5 million). Phase 3 (from May 2021) extended eligibility to all remaining adults aged 18–59 (~16 million).
The calculator places you in the appropriate phase based on your age, frontline status, comorbidities, and essential worker role, then counts all people in higher-priority phases as 'ahead of you'. Dividing by the weekly vaccination rate gives an estimated wait in weeks. Group sizes are DOSM 2021 demographic estimates combined with CITF programme documentation; all values are editable.
Malaysia's vaccination rate accelerated dramatically during 2021: from about 60,000 doses per day early in the year to over 400,000 doses per day by mid-August 2021. The 300,000 people per week default is a conservative early-programme figure; update it with the latest MySejahtera or CITF daily report for a more accurate estimate.
Frequently asked questions
MySejahtera collected registration information including age, occupation, and health status. The CITF then used this data to assign priority categories and send appointment notifications. Users were informed of their priority level within the app and received vaccination appointment slots when their phase was opened.
Malaysia used primarily Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty) and AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria) in 2021. Sinovac (CoronaVac) was also authorised and administered. AstraZeneca was offered as an opt-in for adults aged 18–59 who wished an earlier appointment when Pfizer supply was constrained.
Yes, Malaysia explicitly included non-citizen residents (with valid passes) in the PICK programme at the same priority levels as citizens. This was a notable policy decision aimed at achieving herd immunity across the full resident population rather than only citizens. Non-citizens registered through MySejahtera in the same way.
