Upside Down Text Generator — Flip Text Upside Down
Type or paste any text and see it instantly flipped upside down using Unicode look-alike characters — copy and paste the result into social media bios, captions, or messages.
How does this calculator work?
Each letter is replaced with its closest Unicode upside-down look-alike (IPA and other Unicode blocks), then the entire string is reversed. The result, when rotated 180°, reads like the original. Not all characters flip cleanly — unmapped characters are reversed in position but kept as-is.
Formula
How this is calculated
Upside-down text is not a font — it uses Unicode characters from the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and other Unicode blocks that visually resemble rotated Latin letters. For example "a" maps to ɐ (U+0250), "e" maps to ǝ (U+01DD), and "h" maps to ɥ (U+0265). After mapping every character, the entire string is reversed so that when you rotate the result 180 degrees it reads left-to-right like the original.
Not every character has a convincing Unicode flip counterpart. Letters like l, o, s, x, z look similar upside down and are kept as-is. Digits with well-known flips (6↔9) are swapped; others without close matches (like 3, 4, 7) are approximated with the closest available Unicode glyph. Punctuation like ! → ¡ and ? → ¿ uses inverted forms from Spanish orthography. Characters with no flip equivalent are passed through unchanged and reversed in position.
The result depends on the rendering environment: monospace or serif fonts give the most convincing flip effect. Some platforms strip or replace unusual Unicode characters, so results may vary on different social networks, messaging apps, or document editors.
Frequently asked questions
The text uses real Unicode code points so it copies and pastes into any app that supports Unicode. However, some platforms sanitise or replace unusual characters — for example, some social media sites normalise IPA letters. The effect is generally best in plain text environments like Twitter/X bios, Discord, Reddit, and SMS.
Only letters with a visually similar rotated form exist in Unicode. Letters like p/d and q/b swap with each other. Letters with rotational symmetry (o, s, x) are kept as-is. Digits and symbols are approximated where possible using Spanish inverted punctuation (¡, ¿) and IPA characters.
Yes — the flipped text displayed is selectable plain Unicode text. Select it and use your usual copy shortcut (Ctrl+C / ⌘+C) to copy it to the clipboard.
