Weight = L × W × T (in mm) × density ÷ 10⁹. For mild steel (7,850 kg/m³) a 1,000 × 500 × 10 mm plate weighs 39.25 kg. Enter dimensions and quantity to get single-plate and total weight in kilograms for steel, stainless or aluminium.

How this is calculated
The weight of any rectangular plate equals its volume multiplied by the material density. Volume in m³ is found by converting each dimension from millimetres to metres (divide by 1,000) and multiplying the three together: L/1000 × W/1000 × T/1000. Multiplying by density (kg/m³) gives the mass in kilograms.
Steel density depends on alloy composition. Mild structural steel (A36, S235, S355) is approximately 7,850 kg/m³ — the standard reference used in fabrication and structural engineering. Austenitic stainless steels 304 and 316 are slightly denser (8,000–8,030 kg/m³) due to nickel and molybdenum content; aluminium 6061 at 2,700 kg/m³ is roughly one-third the weight of steel for equal geometry. These are industry reference densities (2024); certified plate weight from the mill test report (MTR) will reflect the specific batch.
The weight per m² (kg/m²) is useful for structural loading and shipping area estimates — it equals density × thickness in metres. Multiply the single-plate result by the quantity field to get total procurement or lifting weight.
