Annual sock loss = (pairs × 2) × loss% per wash × washes per year. Divide by 2 for pairs lost, multiply by pair cost for annual spend. The Socks Loss Index (SLI) is a composite score from 0 to 10 that reflects the combined effect of laundry frequency and loss rate: SLI = min(10, washes/week × loss%/3).
