How does this calculator work?
Enter days sober → get weeks (÷7), months (÷30.44), and years (÷365.25), plus estimated money saved at your daily saving rate. A progress bar shows how close you are to the next benchmark (1 week → 1 month → 3 months → 6 months → 1 year → 2, 3, 5, 10 years).
Formula
How this is calculated
The calculator converts a single input — days of sobriety — into multiple time units. Weeks use the exact 7-day conversion. Months use the average calendar month length of 30.4375 days (365.25 ÷ 12), which smooths over the varying lengths of calendar months. Years use 365.25 days to account for leap years across longer streaks.
Milestones (1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 5 years, 10 years) are standard benchmarks in recovery communities such as Alcoholics Anonymous, SMART Recovery, and similar programmes. The progress bar shows how far along you are between your most-recently passed milestone and the next one ahead.
The money-saved estimate multiplies your stated daily saving by the number of days sober. If you used to spend €12 per day on alcohol and have been sober for 90 days, the estimate is €1,080. This figure is illustrative — actual savings depend on your individual habits, prices, and whether you have redirected spending elsewhere. This tool is not a clinical instrument and does not replace support from a medical professional or recovery programme.
Frequently asked questions
Common milestones celebrated in recovery programmes include 24 hours, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and then each subsequent year. Physiologically, the liver begins recovering within days of stopping alcohol, and most withdrawal symptoms clear within the first two weeks.
It multiplies your stated daily saving by the number of days sober. The figure is a rough motivational guide — it does not account for price changes over time, tax differences, or what you now spend money on instead. Treat it as an order-of-magnitude estimate.
This calculator gives a quick snapshot of your sobriety figures. A dedicated sobriety app typically tracks your exact start date, sends daily reminders, and may connect you with a recovery community — all of which can be valuable. Consider using both alongside professional support.
