How does this calculator work?
Relative frequency equals event count f divided by total observations n, giving a proportion between 0 and 1. Multiply by 100 for a percentage. The complement (1 − f/n) is the relative frequency of all other outcomes. In a complete frequency table, all relative frequencies must sum to 1.

How this is calculated
In statistics, absolute frequency (f) counts how many times a particular value or event appears in a data set, while relative frequency expresses the same count as a proportion of the total: f / n. This makes datasets of different sizes directly comparable — knowing that 15 out of 60 students chose option A (relative frequency 0.25) is immediately more useful than the raw count alone.
The relative frequency is a number between 0 and 1. Multiplied by 100, it gives the percentage occurrence. Its complement (1 − f/n) is the relative frequency of everything else — useful for checking that all categories in a frequency table sum to 1 (or 100 %).
For a complete frequency table with multiple categories, calculate each category's relative frequency separately. All relative frequencies in a distribution must sum to 1, making this a quick consistency check. Relative frequency also equals the empirical probability of the event in a frequentist framework: as n grows large, f/n converges to the true probability.
