Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

Enter your pay and its frequency (hourly to annual). The calculator converts to an annual total (e.g. hourly × hours/week × weeks/year, or monthly × 12) then divides by 12 for your gross monthly income. All figures are before tax — hours/week and weeks/year inputs only affect hourly-rate conversions.

Formula
Annual = amount × frequency multiplier · Monthly = Annual ÷ 12 · Hourly = Annual ÷ (hours/week × weeks/year)
How this is calculated

The calculator first converts any pay frequency into a single annual figure using standard multipliers: hourly is multiplied by hours per week and weeks per year; daily by 5 days per week and weeks per year; weekly by weeks per year; fortnightly by 26; semi-monthly (twice a month) by 24; monthly by 12; quarterly by 4; annual figures are used as-is. Dividing that annual total by 12 gives the gross monthly income shown as the hero result.

All other periods are then derived from the same annual number to keep them consistent. The hours-per-week and weeks-per-year inputs only matter when the pay period is set to hourly or daily; for all other periods they are ignored. The defaults of 40 hours and 52 weeks reflect full-time, year-round employment — lower the weeks for unpaid leave or part-year contracts.

All results are gross figures before income tax, social-insurance contributions, pension deductions or any other withholdings. If you need your take-home monthly income, feed the annual figure into a net-salary calculator for your jurisdiction.

Frequently asked questions

Bi-weekly means paid every two weeks — 26 pay cheques per year. Semi-monthly means paid twice per calendar month (usually the 1st and 15th) — exactly 24 cheques per year. The annual totals differ slightly, so the monthly equivalents are different.

This calculator shows a gross monthly equivalent — your actual pay cheques depend on your specific payroll calendar, withholding tax, benefits deductions and bonus payments, none of which are modelled here.

Add your expected annual bonus to your base annual salary, then set the period to "Per year". This gives you an average monthly income that includes the bonus spread evenly across 12 months.
