How does this calculator work?
Each Latin letter is swapped for its Unicode Mathematical Italic equivalent (U+1D434–U+1D467 for italic, U+1D468–U+1D49B for bold italic). Non-Latin characters pass through unchanged. The resulting text is plain Unicode that displays in italic style on most social platforms.
Formula
How this is calculated
The Unicode standard includes a "Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols" block (U+1D400–U+1D7FF) designed for mathematical typesetting. Each Latin letter has an italic variant — for example, the regular "A" (U+0041) maps to the italic "𝐴" (U+1D434). This calculator replaces every Latin letter in your input with its mathematical italic counterpart while leaving digits, spaces, punctuation and non-Latin characters unchanged.
The result is a string of real Unicode characters, not formatted text, so it works wherever plain text is accepted — social media bios, usernames, posts, messages and anywhere that does not strip Unicode. The trade-off is that screen readers may read these characters as mathematical symbols rather than regular letters, so avoid using them in contexts where accessibility matters.
Bold italic uses a separate Unicode block (U+1D468–U+1D49B), giving heavier strokes on top of the slant. If a platform substitutes a default glyph for a character it does not support, you will see a small box or question mark in that position.
Frequently asked questions
The mathematical italic block is part of Unicode but not every font ships glyphs for it. Platforms that use fonts without those code points will show a fallback box. Major social networks (Instagram, Twitter/X, Discord) generally support them.
Only Latin letters (A–Z, a–z) have Unicode italic equivalents. Digits, spaces and punctuation are passed through unchanged because no italic variants exist for them in the mathematical block.
The converter works entirely in your browser with no server call, so there is no hard limit imposed here. Individual platforms enforce their own character limits on posts, bios, etc.
