How does this calculator work?
Subtract your date of birth from today (or any reference date) to get your age. The calculator does the calendar arithmetic automatically — showing years, months, days, total weeks, total days, and days until your next birthday.
Formula
How this is calculated
The calculator counts the exact calendar difference between the date of birth and the reference date. It first subtracts the years, then the months, then the remaining days — adjusting backward when the day or month of the reference date is earlier in the year than the birthday. This is the same method that civil registration systems use: if you were born on 15 June 1990 and today is 1 March 2026, you are 35 years, 8 months and 14 days old.
Total days and weeks are computed directly from the millisecond difference between the two dates divided by 86,400,000 (milliseconds per day). Both dates are treated as midnight local time, so daylight-saving transitions do not affect the day count.
The countdown to the next birthday is the number of days from the reference date to the next occurrence of the birth month and day. If the birthday has already passed this calendar year, it looks to next year. The timeline bar shows age as a fraction of an 80-year life expectancy — purely for visual reference.
Frequently asked questions
Age is the difference between the reference date and the date of birth in whole completed years, then the remaining months, then the remaining days — all counted on the Gregorian calendar with no rounding.
If you were born on 29 February, most systems count your birthday as 28 February or 1 March in non-leap years. This calculator uses 28 February in non-leap years for consistency with most civil records.
The total days field gives the exact count. For example, someone born on 1 January 1990 and checking on 1 January 2026 would be exactly 36 years = 13,149 days old (including 9 leap years).
