Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

Divide your budget by the price per litre to get litres; multiply litres by price per litre to get cost. Example: a 50 budget at 1.80/L buys 27.8 L. The formula is exact — real pumps round to the nearest 0.01 L, so your actual fill may differ by a tiny fraction.

Formula
Litres = Budget ÷ Price per litre • Cost = Litres × Price per litre
How this is calculated

The calculator works in two directions. In budget mode you enter how much money you want to spend and the current price per litre; dividing the budget by the price gives the exact number of litres the pump will deliver. In litres mode you enter the quantity you want and the price, and the calculator multiplies them to give the total cost.

Fuel prices vary by grade (unleaded, premium, diesel), pump location and time of day. The price you enter should be the current forecourt price shown on the pump display for the grade you use.

The result is exact arithmetic — there are no hidden assumptions. Real pump deliveries are rounded to the nearest centilitre (0.01 L) by the pump meter, so your actual quantity may differ by a fraction of a litre from the calculated figure. Keep a small buffer in your budget to account for pump rounding and price fluctuations.

Frequently asked questions

Most passenger cars hold 45–70 litres. Small city cars are typically around 40–45 L, family sedans 55–60 L and SUVs and trucks 70–90 L or more. Check your vehicle handbook for the exact capacity.

Yes — unleaded, premium and diesel have different pump prices. Always enter the price for the grade your vehicle requires, and check that you are pumping from the correct nozzle.

Absolutely. Just enter the litres you want to add rather than a full tank amount. The cost is proportional: if 10 litres costs X, then 20 litres costs 2X at the same price.
