How does this calculator work?
This calculator converts a repeating interval — every N seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or years — into event rates per second, minute, hour, day and year. The formula is rate = 1 ÷ intervalInSeconds; multiply by 86 400 for per-day and by 31 557 600 for per-year.
Formula
How this is calculated
Every repeating event can be described by an interval (how far apart) and a frequency (how often). They are reciprocals of each other — if the interval is 5 minutes (300 seconds) the frequency is 1 ÷ 300 ≈ 0.003 33 events per second. This calculator converts whatever interval you enter into seconds, takes the reciprocal, then multiplies by the number of seconds in each target period.
The month figure uses the average Gregorian month of 365.25 ÷ 12 = 30.4375 days (2 629 746 seconds), and the year uses 365.25 × 86 400 = 31 557 600 seconds. All other scales — second, minute, hour, day, week — are exact multiples. The millisecond option handles sub-second intervals such as request rates or sensor sampling.
Typical uses include estimating server throughput ("a request every 250 ms → how many per day?"), medication schedules ("every 8 hours → times per week?"), subscription costs ("billed monthly → cost per day?") and resource planning ("one backup every 6 hours → how many per year?").
Frequently asked questions
Multiply N by 86 400 to get the interval in seconds, then take the reciprocal: rate = 1 ÷ (N × 86 400). For example, every 3 days = 1 ÷ 259 200 ≈ 0.000 003 86 events per second.
This calculator uses the average Gregorian month: 365.25 ÷ 12 = 30.4375 days = 2 629 746 seconds. Calendar months vary from 28 to 31 days, so the average avoids picking a specific month.
Select "millisecond" and enter the interval in milliseconds. For example, every 250 ms gives 4 events per second, 240 per minute, and 345 600 per day.
