Quick answer

How does this calculator work?

Percent = Decimal × 100. Move the decimal point two places to the right: 0.75 → 75%, 0.005 → 0.5%, 1.2 → 120%. The conversion is exact; no rounding occurs unless the decimal itself is an approximation. The reverse is Decimal = Percent ÷ 100.

Formula
Percent = Decimal × 100
How this is calculated

A percentage is simply a ratio expressed out of 100. To convert a decimal to a percent, multiply by 100. For example, 0.75 × 100 = 75%, and 0.005 × 100 = 0.5%. Decimals greater than 1 give percentages above 100% — for instance 1.5 becomes 150% — which is perfectly valid when expressing growth or ratios larger than a whole.

The reverse operation (percent to decimal) divides by 100. So the two representations carry the same information; the choice between them is one of convention — scientific contexts often prefer the decimal form while business and everyday communication prefer the percent form.

The fraction bar visualization is shown only when the decimal is between 0 and 1, where it meaningfully illustrates the portion of a whole. For decimals outside that range, the exact numeric result is still shown — only the bar is hidden as it would not convey useful information.

Frequently asked questions

Multiply the decimal by 100. For example, 0.35 × 100 = 35%. Move the decimal point two places to the right.

Yes. 1.5 converts to 150%, which is common in growth rates, interest, and ratios. A value over 100% simply means more than one whole.

0.005 × 100 = 0.5%. This is a common example in interest rates and proportions expressed as small fractions.
