How this is calculated
A cubic centimetre (cc or cm³) is a unit of volume; a gram is a unit of mass. They are not directly interchangeable — the conversion depends on the density of the substance, which is how much mass is packed into each unit of volume. Water at 20 °C has a density of almost exactly 1.000 g/cc, so for water the numbers happen to be equal: 100 cc of water weighs 100 g. For a denser substance like honey (≈ 1.42 g/cc) the same 100 cc weighs about 142 g; for ethanol (0.789 g/cc) it weighs only 79 g.
The formula is simply mass = volume × density, rearranged from the definition of density (ρ = m / V). All preset densities in this calculator are values at approximately 20 °C and standard atmospheric pressure from standard physical-chemistry references. Density varies slightly with temperature — for example, water is densest at 4 °C (1.0000 g/cc) and slightly less dense at 20 °C (0.9982 g/cc). For most practical purposes the difference is negligible.
Note that cc and mL are exactly equal by SI definition (1 cm³ = 1 mL = 0.001 L), so this converter applies identically to millilitre inputs. If you need to convert a mass in grams back to volume in cc, divide grams by density.
