How does this calculator work?
Belt size = your waist circumference + 2 inches (or + 5 cm for EU sizes). For a 32-inch waist, you need a size 34 belt. The result is rounded to the nearest even number in US/UK inch sizing or to the nearest 5 cm for European sizing.

How this is calculated
A belt needs to be slightly longer than your actual waist so it can thread through belt loops and still close comfortably at the middle hole. The universal rule of thumb is: **belt size = waist + 2 inches** (≈ 5 cm). This gives you room for the buckle and lets you use any of the 5 holes (typically spaced 2.5 cm / 1 inch apart), so the middle hole sits on your preferred tightness.
US and UK belts are sold in even-inch increments (28, 30, 32 … 48), so the result is rounded to the nearest even number. European belts are labelled in centimetres rounded to the nearest 5 cm. Always measure your waist at the point where you actually wear your trousers — typically at the navel or just below — rather than the hip. Stretch the tape snug but not tight.
Note that belt sizing is not standardised globally; some brands (especially dress belts) size by the belt tip-to-middle-hole length rather than total length. If a manufacturer provides a sizing chart, use it over this estimate.

Wrap a measuring tape around your body at the point where you normally wear trousers — usually at or just below your navel. Stand relaxed and note the measurement where the tape overlaps. Don't suck in — the belt has to work at your everyday waist size.
Trouser waist size measures the garment fabric; belt size measures the belt length. Because belts wrap outside the waistband and need extra length for the buckle, your belt size is typically your trouser size plus 2 inches (5 cm). So a 34-inch trouser waist usually needs a size 36 belt.
Size up. A belt that is slightly too long can always be punched with an extra hole or folded through a loop. A belt that is too short will not close comfortably and may strain the buckle hardware.
